Welcome to Tokon Kai Karate
Karate can help
Tokon Kai Karate has been established and run by full time professionally qualified instructors for over 20 years in South East Essex. Classes are available 6 days a week, across different locations.
Tokon Kai Karate teaches the traditional style of Shotokan Karate. The lessons are run in a friendly atmosphere and family participation is encouraged, whilst the discipline of the traditional martial art is always observed. As a supplement to Karate training, kick and punch bags are used to focus power.
Beginners are always welcome and are taught separately. Please see Find Us for more information.
Tokon Kai Karate Overview
Tokon Kai Karate holds club competitions and also has a specially selected squad of students who compete at local, National and International level.
Tokon Kai Karate attends courses each year with high ranking karate masters. Weapons courses are also held.
Advanced classes take place once a month. Social events are held throughout the year, Easter and Christmas to build unity between the different club locations
Chief Instructor is Sensei Jo Griffiths-
Sensei Griffiths has won world titles in kumite and national and international titles in kata and kumite. She is a fully qualified, insured and licenced instructor, with CRB checks, a child protection policy.
She is assisted by a team of 1st, 2nd and 3rd dan instructors.
Tokon Kai Karate holds club competitions each year, in which all students are welcome to take part. This provides students from all the different club locations, the chance to meet each other in friendly competition, with a goal to become the club champion.
Karate is a challenging and exciting sport and whilst competitions are by no means the only goal of karate, many students enjoy the thrill of competing.
Students are expected to display outstanding sportsmanship and respect for their fellow competitors and judges, in keeping with the etiquette and traditions of karate.
Students will learn that taking part is equally as important as winning. This is what “real” karate is all about.
Competitions will also help increase the sharpness of your karate techniques and will also help increase students self confidence, personal development and attitude.
If you have the skill and determination to become a champion, you will be noticed and guided.
For students who wish to compete at external competitions, we have a squad that compete at regional, national and international competitions.
Incentive schemes are in place to recognise students’ hard work. Annual outstanding and most improved student awards are presented.
A sticker scheme is in place for juniors, to receive bronze, silver and gold endeavour awards. There is also an outstanding student award presented at the end of each term at afterschool clubs.
